San Clemente (19-10), which trailed by as many as five goals, scored three times in the final minute of the second period to trail only 7-6 at halftime. After the break, third-seeded Harvard-Westlake responded with four goals, each by a different player, to create some breathing room.

``We had a four-goal lead, and then we started playing more into ourselves and not team ball,'' Harvard-Westlake coach Rich Corso said. ``A team like San Clemente will take advantage of that, and they did.''

Travis Warner added four goals for Harvard-Westlake. Sean Staudenbaur led San Clemente with three goals.

``The guys from last year's team were around all week, saying, `Don't do what we did,' so that was pretty good motivation,'' La Canada coach Larry Naeve said after his Spartans won at Pasadena City College.

La Canada lost in the quarterfinals last season, but these Spartans, seeded second, refused to fall to the same fate.

The Spartans got goals from six players, including five from David Millikan and three each from Stephen Neville and Eric Murphy.

La Canada scored the first five goals, but El Rancho rallied to trail just 7-3 at halftime. The Spartans took control with goals by Millikan and Peter Blanton in the first 1 minute, 19 seconds of the third quarter and never were seriously challenged.

--San Marcos 9, Agoura 8: Donavan Tatum got Marmonte League champion Agoura into overtime, skipping his fourth goal of the game past San Marcos goalkeeper Travis Alain as regulation time expired, but the host Royals of Santa Barbara prevailed on a score by Naga naga
