Ellis picked out Greeley's Galaxy for Hughes at a 2-year-olds auction in Kentucky in April 2004. Greeley's Galaxy won the Illinois Derby for 83-year-old trainer Warren Stute.

``We look at everything as a team,'' Ellis said of himself and Hughes. ``I want what's best for the team.''

Greeley's Galaxy can be entered in the Derby only if Hughes pays a $200,000 supplemental fee and can run in the 20-horse race only if one of the early nominees on the current list of 21 hopefuls drops out by Wednesday.

We scoped him (about 30 minutes) after the Trial, and he didn't bleed.''
