  • Hollywood Park, Texas
  • Hollywood Park, Chicago, a neighborhood in Chicago
  • Hollywood Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles, California
  • Hollywood Park Racetrack, Thoroughbred race track in Inglewood, California

In the mid-1960's, real estate developer Stephen A. Calder envisioned summertime racing in Florida; in 1965, on the advice of Mr.

The companies on Thursday announced negotiations that could result in Churchill purchasing the 60-year-old Inglewood track.

Hollywood Park officials were unavailable for comment. In a joint statement, the companies said there are ``no assurances that the negotiations would lead to a definitive purchase agreement or that any agreement between the parities will be consummated.''

Under chairman R.D. Hubbard, who took control of the company from Marjorie Everett in 1991, Hollywood Park has reversed years of decay, but its future has long been the subject of speculation.

A Churchill-Hollywood Park deal would bring together thoroughbred-industry heavyweights. The two tracks have hosted seven of the 15 runnings of the Breeders' Cup The Breeders' Cup World Championships is an annual series of Grade I thoroughbred horse races operated by Breeders' Cup Limited, a company formed in 1982 by a consortium of North American racing organizations, led by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association. . Churchill is the home of the Kentucky Derby Kentucky Derby

One of the classic U.S. Thoroughbred horse races. It was established in 1875 and run annually on the first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs track in Louisville, Ky. With the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes, it makes up U.S. racing's coveted Triple Crown.
.

It won't be easy: Prime Directive, the only Flamingo Stakes entry with a shot at the Kentucky Derby, found his path even tougher when he drew the outside post in the eight-horse field for Saturday's race at Hialeah.

Even with the poor draw, Prime Directive was made the 2-1 favorite in the 1-1/8-mile, $250,000 race for 3-year-olds. First American was next at 5-2, followed by Cryptodiplomacy at 4-1.

Neither Prime Directive, making his debut under trainer Pat Byrne, nor his seven challengers are among the Daily Racing Form's list of the top 25 Derby contenders.

The field grows: Connections of 11 three-year-olds have paid $6,000 each to add their horses' names to the list of Triple Crown nominees. The late nominations closed March 27.

The list of nominees now stands at 407, the third-largest since Triple Crown Productions instituted a single nomination fee schedule. The record high for nominations was 452 in 1986.

The late nominees are: Acuarious, Adagio a·da·gio

Jim'smrtee, an early nominee, was withdrawn from the list after a poor showing in the Rebel Stakes.

Series continues: The third race in the National Thoroughbred Racing Association's series on Fox will be held Saturday with the 53rd running of the $750,000, Grade I, Oaklawn Handicap at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark.

The race will be shown on tape-delay as part of a one-hour program airing on Fox Sports Net regional sports networks.

Heading the field for the Oaklawn Handicap are a pair of 5-year-olds, Behrens and Precocity, each winners of Grade I handicap races. Precocity, ridden by Eddie Martin Jr., drew the rail. Behrens, ridden by Jorge Chavez, drew post position 3 in the field of eight horses that will race 1-1/8 miles.

Behrens, winner of last month's Gulfstream Park Handicap The Gulfstream Park Handicap is a race for thoroughbred horses run at Gulfstream Park each year. The race is open to horses age four and up, willing to race one and three-sixteenths miles on the dirt. A Grade II event, it offers a purse of $350,000.  following a second-place finish in the NTRA NTRA National Thoroughbred Racing Association
