Matt Lowenstein's interception late in the game helped set up a 22-yard field goal by Matt Bernstein Matt Bernstein (born 1982-12-26 in Scarsdale, New York) was a football standout at University of Wisconsin-Madison, currently playing with the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League after a stint in the National Football League with the Detroit Lions.  with seven seconds left as Calabasas edged Valley Christian/Cerritos 31-28 in a Southern Section Division XI second-round game Friday in Cerritos.

The interception came 11 seconds after the Coyotes (9-2-1) had tied the game when Dallas Enoch tossed a 16-yard touchdown pass to Evan Rosenblum.

Calabasas opened the scoring when Mike Armacast scored on a 7-yard run with 5:12 left in the first quarter. The touchdown capped a 10 play, 65-yard drive.

The Crusaders tied the game 39 seconds into the second quarter when quarterback Tim Vanderhook scored on a 21-yard keeper up the middle.

The Coyotes regained the lead with 3:16 left in the first half when Drew Coppola scored on a 6-yard run.

After Enoch was intercepted at the Valley Christian 39-yard line with 1:03 left in the first half, the Crusaders drove to the Coyotes 34, where Keith Witt kicked a 59-yard field goal as time expired.

Bryan Jones scored on the Coyotes opening drive of the second half, a 6-yard run with 3:49 left in the third quarter to increase their lead to 21-13.

But it was apparent this was going to be a game of who had the ball last. That battle was won by Harvard-Westlake, as the Wolverines drove the ball 89 yards and ate the last 9:50 in the fourth quarter to secure their victory.

Harvard-Westlake's Matt Felder threw for 154 yards and one touchdown.

Offensively and defensively, Holmes had big plays to spark the Wolverines. Holmes finished with 180 yards total offense. He scored two touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving, plus threw the TD pass to Clark. Defensively, Holmes had a sack and knocked down a pass.

Pioneer kept close all night long. Its last score cut the Wolverines lead to 35-30. But it only took Harvard-Westlake 1:19 to answer back, as Witter witter

The key to the victory, Paraclete coach Steve Hagertry said, was his team's ability to shut down the run in the second half and particularly Mitch Harkley. Harkley rushed for 136 yards and two touchdowns in the first half but just 29 in the second half.

``We're a little beat up because of the physical games out here in the desert,'' Hargery said. ``But it doesn't matter because the win will make the ride home feel pretty good for these kids.''

Paraclete will face Cathedral in the semifinals next week. Hagerty said he never would have believed his team would get this far.

``We're here due to the kids' maturity over the course of the season,'' he said.
