 4: Former Thousand Oaks High pitcher Chris Cordeiro fell to 1-6 on the year as the visiting Bruins (21-27, 6-8) lost to the Huskies (21-20-1, 9-5) in a Pacific-10 Conference game.

With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Washington's Mike Wagner slammed a single just in front of diving right fielder Matt Thayer for the game-winning hit. Earlier, Cordeiro had allowed runners on first and third with a walk and a single before being replaced by Doug Silva.

Despite jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, UCLA played catch- up for most of the game. The Bruins tied the score 4-4 in the top of the ninth when Adam Berry hit a pinch-hit home run, his conference-leading 16th of the season.

Wes Whisler added a home run and two doubles for UCLA.

 record for home runs in a career, belting her 86th in the top of the seventh inning as the visiting Bruins (46-6, 14-3) cruised to the Pac-10 victory.

--Cuesta 3, Antelope Valley 1: Starter Candy Johnson gave up three first- inning runs and Antelope Valley was unable to overcome the deficit in a first-round loss in the Southern California regional playoffs at Cypress College.

The Marauders still have a chance to advance to next weekend's state championship tournament in Fresno. They will have to beat Rio Hondo today at 10 a.m. and then win three consecutive games to earn the berth.

Lauren McDonald, a Paraclete High of Lancaster graduate, replaced Johnson in the first and was effective through the final six innings, giving up four hits.
