Thousand Trails Inc. has begun adding cabins to its away-from-home accommodations. Thirty cabins should be added to the system of 59 campgrounds by the end of the year, with four of the cabins currently located in the system's Soledad Canyon Soledad Canyon is a long narrow canyon / valley located in Los Angeles County, California between the cities of Palmdale and Santa Clarita. They all come equipped with a stove stove, device used for heating or for cooking food. ``All the comforts of home, except you're in the middle of a nice campground,'' said Gelinas.

For $9,995, members can use a cabin free for one week a year for a total of 11 years. Rentals for additional nights are $49.

Gelinas said the company began adding the cabins after discovering that many RV owners sold their vehicles because of the bother of maintenance and storage, but still wanted the experience of camping. Other potential customers had never owned an RV but enjoyed the camping experience.

``That's the way we see ourselves going in the future,'' said Gelinas. ``We think it's a big deal. A lot of campgrounds are doing it, because there are people that just can't own (RVs). There's a real appeal to this because there's a large group of people that want the quality of life that comes with camping.''

Thousand Trails' Soledad Canyon Preserve is on 266 acres at 4700 Crown Valley Road in Acton and features playgrounds, RV storage, spa and swimming pools, tennis courts and children's activities.
