Contributions are coming in from Rotary Club members in the Southland and halfway around the world to help finance larger quarters for the Grace Resource Center, which provides hot meals and groceries for those in need.

. So far, Rotarians have donated $25,000, including $5,000 from Lancaster members and a matching $5,000 from the organization's international funds. The project also got a $10,000 grant from Rotary District 5260 funds to which 38 clubs contribute, including clubs in the San Fernando San Fernando, city, Argentina

``I think the Grace Resource Center, in general, performs an extremely valuable function for the community by providing groceries and hot meals for people who are the working poor,'' said Mike Pope, president of Lancaster Rotary West.

``A lot of our people are just folks who can't make it,'' Baker said. ``They need a little bit of groceries and a few hot meals and some clothing to get through.''

Larry Ralston, who owns the Burger King franchise on Avenue I, donated windows, ice machines, lights, sinks and booths for the new center, scheduled to open in January at 45134 N. Sierra Highway Sierra Highway is a road in Southern California, United States. It runs from Tunnel Station near the north limit of the City of Los Angeles, where it intersects with San Fernando Road and Foothill Boulevard, as well as Interstate 5, and continues north to Mojave, mostly paralleling . The 13,000-square-foot building will hold a kitchen, dining room, food-storage room, clothing store, bathrooms, laundry rooms and a fresh-start center where families on welfare will be mentored by community volunteers.

The Grace Resource Center serves about 6,000 families in the Antelope Valley each month. It is funded by private donations, churches, businesses and families.

``It's just exciting,'' Baker said. ``These people believe in what we're doing.''
