About 1,000 pounds of bratwurst, 900 pounds of homemade German sauerkraut and more than 4,000 Beck's beers were enjoyed by thousands of Conejo Valley The Conejo Valley is a region spanning both Southeastern Ventura County and Northwest Los Angeles County in Southern California, United States. It was discovered in 1542 by Spanish explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, and eventually became part of the Rancho El Conejo land grant by  residents in celebration of the Newbury Park Rotary Club's 15th annual Oktoberfest on Sunday.

In Germany, Oktoberfest centers around Munich, where large beer tents are set up with long tables and benches, and costumed beer maids carry two or three steins in each hand.

``There's probably not quite as much beer as the real Oktoberfest. Here it's not quite as crazy,'' said local restaurant owner restaurant owner ndueño/a or propietario/a de un restaurante  Francois Zanni, who was costumed in lederhosen dating back to the 1950s.

More than 60 vendors set up booths in the Conejo Creek North park, in back of the Thousand Oaks Library. This year new Kidfest and Teenfest areas were included as part of the festivities fes·tiv·i·ty

``My wife is of German descent, so we come out every year. It's a lot of fun,'' said Alan Hardie of Thousand Oaks, who has been coming to the Oktoberfest since it started 15 years ago.

The event is the main fund-raiser for the Newbury Park Rotary Club, which donates 100 percent of its earnings to local, national and worldwide charities.

Most of the money is raised from selling German-style bratwurst, potato salad and authentic tangy yellow sauerkraut made from Camarillo resident Monica Holdereid's secret family recipe.

He and his buddies sported wild hats with blinking beer maids and beer kegs. The table was littered with pretzels and memorabilia obtained on a recent trip to Germany.
