ROSS SYSTEMS SHIPS, INSTALLS FIRST RENAISSANCE UNIX FINANCIAL SYSTEMS
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Production versions of Ross open systems financial applications are now shipping and have been installed at two customer sites, according to Dennis V. Vohs, chairman and CEO of Ross Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: ROSS).
The Ross Renaissance Open Series products were ported to the UNIX environment under a joint project between Digital Equipment Corporation (NYSE: DEC) and Ross Systems. The first installations were at the Kansas City Star, Kansas City, Mo., and Belgacom, Brussels, Belgium.
Ross Systems is one of the first software vendors to offer open systems versions of the robust, feature-rich applications that are required by large organizations with sophisticated financial requirements. In addition, Ross offers the security of a worldwide sales and support organization for multi-national organizations that are seeking to standardize on a global scale.
"IT managers in larger organizations perceive Ross as being able to reduce the risk in the move toward open systems because we offer proven commercial applications, not low-end applications that are trying to grow up. Ross' Renaissance line for the VAX VMS environment is currently installed in over 1,000 organizations, including many of the Fortune 500 companies," said Pat Tinley, Ross' executive vice president for technology. Another benefit noted by Tinley is that Ross offers its current customers the opportunity to transition to open systems without having to change suppliers.
The installations at the Kansas City Star and Belgacom both mark the first time either organization has implemented financial applications on an open systems platform.
The Kansas City Star is a major metropolitan newspaper with a daily circulation of close to 300,000. The paper chose an open systems environment as a part of its rightsizing efforts, and Ross because its financial package fit the organization's need better than any of its competitors, according to Michael Finks, assistant controller at the Star.
"Ross is an experienced provider of financial solutions and its UNIX package met all our requirements as well as a couple of important extras," said Finks. "In addition, Ross has given us excellent support. The staff is knowledgeable, understands what we want, and gets answers to us quickly."
Belgacom is Belgium's state-owned telephone and telecommunications company and employs over 25,000 people. Belgacom chose Ross' financial application because of the quality of the business solution offered. Ross is helping Belgacom move from a centralized bookkeeping system to decentralized financial management.
Ross Systems, Inc., was among the first companies to offer commercial accounting software in the midrange market. Its primary focus has been on the Digital VAX market where the company has been a member of Digital's Cooperative Marketing Program (CMP) since 1984. Today, Ross Systems, Inc. develops and markets a broad range of business solutions in five strategic environments: Digital VMS and OSF/1, HP-UX, UNIX and client/server.
