ROSS MAKES HIS POINTS GUARD CAN SCORE, TOO.

Byline: JILL PAINTER Staff Writer

Quinton Ross Quinton Lenord Ross (born April 30 1981 in Dallas Texas) is an American professional basketball player who currently plays small forward for the Los Angeles Clippers of the NBA.

Ross led Dallas' Justin F.
wants to shed his label as a defensive stopper.

It's not that he minds being known as a solid defender -- that's how he signed as an undrafted free agent -- it's that he'd just like for people to recognize his offensive game, too. His playoff outing Thursday will help his cause.

Ross had a career-high 18 points and did another fine job guarding Steve Nash Steven John Nash, OBC (born February 7, 1974),[1] is a Canadian professional basketball player who plays point guard for the Phoenix Suns of the National Basketball Association (NBA).  and forced a Game 7.

``I'm always playing hard defensively, it's just that I got opportunities to score,'' Ross said.

He made the most of them.

The other benefit of Ross guarding Nash is that Nash had to guard Ross. And Ross, at 6-foot-6, had a height advantage on Nash at 6-3.

Ross was left open on the wing for shots, and when he drove to the basket, he made shots over Nash. Ross also posted up on Nash and that worked to perfection Adv. 1. to perfection - in every detail; "the new house suited them to a T"

``We felt like we had a good post matchup against Steve and that he would score down in the low post,'' Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy Mike Dunleavy is the name of two notable persons in basketball, father and son:

When Sam Cassell got to his locker, the first thing he said was, ``Way to go, Q.'' When Elton Brand talked about kicking the ball out of double- teams in his postgame interview, Ross' name was the first he mentioned.

That must have been a first.

``We don't look to him to score,'' Clippers center Chris Kaman said. ``Anything he gives you (offensively) is excellent and extra. You look to him defensively and he's the guy, particularly on Nash. He's done a heck of a job defensively.''

``The offense came from the flow of the game,'' Ross said. ``I made shots and with that comes confidence.''
