Early years both figure to be back next season for the Hurricanes and that's bad news for the rest of college football. Dorsey, a junior, and sophomore Johnson put on a dazzling show Thursday night in Miami's 37-14 thumping of Nebraska in the Bowl Championship Series title game at the Rose Bowl that gave the Hurricanes their fifth national title. The first was almost too easy. With the game scoreless, Dorsey dropped back and saw a wide-open Johnson streaking down the right sideline. Cornerback Keyuo Craver had fallen on the play, leaving Johnson alone to hook up with Dorsey on the 49-yard scoring play that gave Miami a 7-0 lead with 6:51 left in the first quarter. ``That was pretty nice,'' Dorsey said. ``I got excited and thought I'd put a little too much on the ball, but Andre made a hell of a play.'' Said Johnson: ``Coming off the line, I wanted to get physical with their defensive back. He fell down and I was shocked that I was that wide open.'' Craver said he was pushed down on the play. ``The guy beat me,'' he said. ``They talked the talk and walked the walk.'' Dorsey and Johnson hooked up again in the second quarter, this time from 8 yards out to climax a 55-yard drive and give the Hurricanes a 34-0 lead with 3:35 left before halftime. Dorsey dropped back and found a diving Johnson near the right corner of the end zone on the play, giving the 6-foot-3, 212-pound receiver five catches for 160 yards in the first half. Nebraska coach Frank Solich Frank Solich (born September 8, 1944 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, U.S.) is the head football coach of the Ohio Bobcats. Solich's Time at Ohio Solich's impact on the Ohio program was immediate, as plans were put in place to renovate Ohio's football facilities and increase said the Hurricanes have too many weapons to stop them all. ``Their skilled people are excellent,'' he said. ``Their receivers are all great players. They really have you in a bind. No matter which way they go, they are capable of putting points on the board.'' Dorsey, 6-5 and 200 pounds, said the Miami receivers made his job easy. ``I have faith in all the receivers that they are going to get open,'' he said. ``One of my goals tonight was to try to make every ball I threw catchable. Andre stepped up huge. He was just incredible.'' The Hurricanes were missing their third-leading receiver, Ethenic Sands, who was suspended for the game because of an undisclosed violation. But with Johnson and tight end Jeremy Shockey Jeremy Charles Shockey (born August 18, 1980 in Ada, Oklahoma) is a professional American football player, currently playing tight end for the New York Giants of the NFL. High school career , who had five catches for 85 yards and a touchdown, the Hurricanes were not hurting. ``I knew I had to step up my game tonight,'' Johnson said. ``I thought Ken would get the ball in the right place, and I just had to make the plays. I knew if we made the plays, we'd win the game.'' Dorsey said after the game he definitely will return for his senior season, and Johnson also is expected to come back to give the Hurricanes what likely will be one of the most potent passing combinations in the nation. EXPERT ANALYSIS --We asked UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles UCLA University Center for Learning Assistance (Illinois State University) UCLA University of Carrollton, TX and Lower Addison, TX coach Bob Toledo Bob Toledo (born March 4, 1946, in San Jose, California) is an American football coach, recently hired as head coach at Tulane University. BOB TOLEDO Obviously, the balance of Miami being able to run and pass was the key. They did a good job of play action early and they spread the ball around, and Ken Dorsey was accurate. He does a good job of delivering the ball on time and to the right spot. Miami's speed really showed on both sides of the ball. If one guy is faster than the other, he separates from him and beats him. Nebraska never had an answer for that. Miami's not real complex. It's a relatively simple offense, but it gets back to execution. They're doing a great job of execution. They've got a lot of weapons and they spread the ball around. Andre Johnson, the receiver, is very fast and Clinton Portis, the tailback, runs real hard. The touchdown pass to the tight end Jeremy Shockey was a nice play, when they lined him up in the backfield. Another thing I liked is that Miami used play action on early downs and then ran it on downs where you'd think they'd pass. Nebraska's big problem was they couldn't throw the ball. Miami just played the option and took away the wide receivers. They're getting nine guys in the box, pressuring a lot and running to the ball real well. Whenever Nebraska gets into a third down, it runs an option or a quarterback draw or a receiver screen. They just don't throw the ball down the field. That makes it easy for Miami. You just put pressure on the quarterback knowing they're not going to throw downfield down·field adv. & adj. Sports To, into, or in the defensive team's end of the field. PETE CARROLL This national championship game was never about Nebraska, it was all about Miami. I saw the Hurricanes play in person last year against Pitt and they're older, stronger and faster today. I don't see why anybody would want to go there. You wouldn't play. The Hurricanes are the class of the country and deserve to be No. 1. In all areas, Miami is just loaded with players. On defense, there's no weak link and so much speed they overwhelmed Nebraska. The Cornhuskers came out fired up with intensity, but they weren't able to hang with Miami. I thought Nebraska might give the Hurricanes some problems, but they weren't able to run the football, especially in the first half. Miami plays a very simple and standard defense, but they're so good, they don't have to do anything special. They play teams straight-up because they can. Players like linebacker D.J. Williams are extraordinary talents. He has the speed to be a running back but hits like a linebacker. Cornhuskers quarterback Eric Crouch is a gifted runner, but he had little help on the option. Miami took away the pitch immediately at the line of scrimmage line of scrimmage n. pl. lines of scrimmage Football Either of two imaginary lines extending across the field parallel to the goal line at the ends of the ball as it rests prior to being snapped and at which each team lines up for . With the pitch gone as an option, all Crouch could do was run the ball himself. So how do you possibly beat Miami? Or even make some progress against them? If you wanted to attack that defense, you might have to spread them out and make plays in open space.
