ROOSEVELT'S ZAMANIS LAUDED FOR TEACHING.

GLENDALE - Pam Zamanis, who has taught for 13 years at Roosevelt Middle School, is one of seven California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W).  educators being recognized today for their work in helping struggling students learn to read.

Zamanis will receive the Five Star Teacher Award along with $1,500 from Scholastic Inc. to purchase additional educational materials for her class.

Roosevelt has been using Read 180 since September. Already, Zamanis said, the school is seeing improvements in its Stanford 9 test scores and positive changes in students' attitudes toward reading.

This year, the school is offering six sessions of Read 180, compared with four last year.
