ROOKIE'S STOCK RISES IN KINGS' 4-3 VICTORY.

Rookie right wing Kai Nurminen Kai Nurminen (born March 29, 1969, in Turku, Finland) is a Finnish ice hockey forward, currently with HPK in the Finnish SM-liiga.

Nurminen started his ice hockey career playing for TPS in SM-liiga. He has also played for two seasons in the Swedish Elitserien.

It was the second goal of the exhibition season for Nurminen, who is no ordinary rookie. He is 27 years old, scored 31 goals in 40 games for HV71 in the Swedish League last season and played for Team Finland in the World Cup of Hockey.

The Kings, desperate for goal scorers, chose him late, hoping he would be would be ready to play in the NHL NHL Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, see there  immediately.

Vitali Yachmenev's power-play goal at 5:11 of the third period gave the Kings (3-0-1) the lead, but Pavel Bure evened it at 8:56.

Minor-leaguer Jeff Shevalier, who is also getting a long look from the Kings, broke the tie on a two-man advantage at 14:33 of the third period. Petr Klima gave the Kings a two-goal lead 35 seconds later.

With the Canucks on a two-man advantage, Josef Beranek's goal cut it to one with 1:29 left.

Kings goalie Stephane Fiset, in his second exhibition start, made 30 saves.

Familiar face: Former Kings enforcer Troy Crowder is literally fighting for a spot with the Canucks.

Brought to training camp on a tryout basis, he was scratched from Saturday's game, but in two previous exhibitions he accumulated 34 penalty minutes.

Crowder earned a job with the Kings under similar circumstances last year, but he grew reluctant to fight once the regular season started and was released after appearing in just 15 games.
