Byline: Fred J. Robledo Staff Writer

CARSON - Thomas Rongen Thomas Rongen (born October 31, 1956 in Amsterdam) is a Dutch soccer coach, currently the Sporting Director of Major League Soccer club Chivas USA and the coach of the U.S. U-20 team.  was relieved of his duties as Chivas USA's coach Monday and reassigned as the club's sporting director after the expansion team dropped to an an MLS-worst 1-8-1 with Saturday's 2-0 loss to the Galaxy.

Assistant coach Javier ``Zully'' Ledesma, goalkeeper for Guadalajara's revered teams of the 1980s was named interim coach for Wednesday's game against Kansas City Kansas City, two adjacent cities of the same name, one (1990 pop. 149,767), seat of Wyandotte co., NE Kansas (inc. 1859), the other (1990 pop. 435,146), Clay, Jackson, and Platte counties, NW Mo.  Center, and club president/co-owner Antonio Cue said a a permanent replacement could be in place by the end of the week.

Cue already has agreed to terms with a new coach, whom he says has professional coaching experience in Mexico and abroad.

``I am as anxious to tell you as anybody is,'' Cue said of the new coach. ``We've had problems in the past with the visa process, and until that's finalized, we're not going to say anything.

``But when the new coach comes, you will see the seriousness given to the project, both by (parent club) Chivas in Guadalajara, and Chivas USA.''

Speculation is that the new coach will be Javier Aguirre, who coaches Spanish Primera Division club Osasuna, which played Chivas USA in a Home Depot Center exhibition March 26. Aguirre played for Mexico's national team in the 1986 World Cup and coached the team in the 2002 World Cup.

Aguirre, one of the biggest names in Mexican soccer, played alongside Rongen with the Los Angeles Aztecs The Los Angeles Aztecs were a soccer team that competed in the North American Soccer League from 1974-81. Several players expressed disappointment with Monday's decision.

``I spoke to Thomas and to the boys, and I damn well hope that everyone feels the same way, that this was the players' fault,'' defender Ryan Suarez said. ``I apologized to Thomas because we lost a good coach and, furthermore, a good person.

Rongen will oversee player development as sporting director.
