ROMANTIC COMEDY BRIDGES CULTURE GAP.Byline: Angela Randazzo Daily News Staff Writer Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969. - The clash between two sophisticated New Yorkers and the Amish residents of Bird-In-Hand, Pa., comes to the fore in the romantic comedy ``Plain and Fancy,'' opening tonight at the Cultural Arts Center. ``The characters learn to appreciate each other's cultures,'' said Jan Glasband, the show's director. ``They find a way to bridge the differences and that makes everyone a better human being.'' For the young performers, meeting Hague - a veteran Broadway composer, teacher, lecturer, coach and performer - was one of the highlights of the production. Hague felt the same way about meeting the cast. ``I dropped in at one of the rehearsals,'' Hague said. ``The kids were wonderful. I'm very pleased. They're doing a great job.'' Hague may be best-remembered for playing the shrewd and wily Professor Shorofsky in the movie and television productions of ``Fame.''
