ROLLINS ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES ANNOUNCES DISCONTINUED INCINERATION OPERATIONS IN DEER PARK, TEXAS

WILMINGTON, Del., Feb. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Rollins Environmental Services, Inc. (NYSE: REN; PSE) announced today that their Deer Park, Texas, facility voluntarily discontinued incineration operations due to processed RCRA waste material which would have exceeded permitted limits. Process monitors detected this material thereby avoiding a discharge to the environment.
The plant is investigating the identity of the waste generator. Although plant facilities were not damaged by this incident, a planned repair and maintenance shutdown has been advanced from the second week in March to minimize downtime. In early February, the Baton Rouge, La. facility began operating under stricter operating protocols in line with a new Part B Permit.
During this transitional period, additional compliance costs are being incurred which will impact second quarter earnings. The company also noted that revenues continue to be impacted by recessionary pressures. In view of these developments, the company said it expects second quarter earnings to be substantially below the comparable quarter of the prior year.
The company is a technological leader for commercial incineration in the chemical waste treatment and disposal industry and operates facilities in Baton Rouge and Plaquemine, La.; Bridgeport, N.J.; and Deer Park, Texas. Chempak treatment and disposal services for small- quantity generators of hazardous waste are provided through offices located in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Washington. The company also operates waste processing, recycling and repackaging facilities in Tipton, Mo., and Los Angeles, and a major laboratory facility in Ann Arbor, Mich.
