ROLLING OUT NEW LOOK; RAILROAD AVENUE GETS TOWN MOVING.

. By the end of July, landscaping will line the street, the road stripes will be painted and light signals will be added, said Glenn Adamick, associate planner for the Community Development Department.

The Railroad Avenue improvements were made in anticipation of a new Metrolink station in downtown Newhall. The road previously was not a through street, but it has been widened and extended to connect with San Fernando Road San Fernando Road is a major street in the city and county of Los Angeles. It starts off in Castaic as The Old Road, passing through Santa Clarita and the Newhall Pass, where upon its intersection with Sierra Highway near the junction of the Golden State (I-5) and the  to ease traffic expected from commuters.

Construction on the Metrolink station should begin in January and completion is expected next June, Adamick said.

Both projects were budgeted for a total of $7 million, with much of the funds coming from federal money awarded to the city after the 1994 Northridge Earthquake The Northridge earthquake occurred on January 17, 1994 at 4:31 AM Pacific Standard Time in the city of Los Angeles, California. ``These are two significant projects, but I think everyone knows there's a lot of work to be done,'' Adamick said. ``The (redevelopment) committee is really starting to look at it and estimate time frames.''
