ROLE-PLAYING SUITORS DISCOVER ROMANCE IN STAGE DOOR COMEDY.Byline: Victoria Giraud Daily News Staff Writer Comedy hides amid disguise in the Stage Door Theatre's production of ``The Game of Love and Chance.'' Not a raucous rau·cous adj. 1. Rough-sounding and harsh: raucous laughter. 2. Boisterous and disorderly: "the raucous give and take of American democracy" comedy, the 18th century French play instead offers wit and subtlety in its observations of human behavior, especially where romance is concerned. The lovely but strong-minded Sylvia, gracefully rendered by Shannon Vistins, is a wealthy young aristocrat, a delicious plum ready to be picked by an eligible bachelor. She and her maid, Lisa, impudently im·pu·dent adj. 1. Characterized by offensive boldness; insolent or impertinent. See Synonyms at shameless. 2. Obsolete Immodest. played by Sara Youngblood, argue over the ideal man's attributes - should he be of good disposition or merely handsome? They are soon to discover their individual preferences when Mr. Humphreys, Sylvia's father, announces the arrival of Dorain, a potential suitor SUITOR. One who is a party to a suit or action in court. One who is a party to an action. In its ancient sense, suitor meant one Who was bound to attend the county court, also, one who formed part of the secta. (q.v.) . What Humphreys, played with great good humor Noun 1. good humor - a cheerful and agreeable mood amiability, good humour, good temper humour, mood, temper, humor - a characteristic (habitual or relatively temporary) state of feeling; "whether he praised or cursed me depended on his temper at the time"; by Richard Landis, fails to tell his daughter is that Dorain plans to switch places with his servant to test the character of his potential mate. Unbeknownst to Dorain, Sylvia and Lisa plan to switch roles as well, for the same reason. Humphrey and his son Thomas, the likable lik·a·ble also like·a·ble adj. The servant Trivet, a boisterous and comic portrayal by Nathan G. Johnson, arrives as his master with an exaggerated sense of an aristocrat's manners - gesturing, bowing and flouncing flounc·ing n. 1. Material used to make flounces. 2. A flounce or an arrangement of flounces, as on a curtain. enthusiastically. As a servant, the handsome and intelligent Dorian, dashingly dash·ing adj. 1. Audacious and gallant; spirited. 2. Marked by showy elegance; splendid: a dashing coat. See Synonyms at fashionable. played by Darin Porter, betrays his gentle breeding, which of course intrigues Sylvia, disguised as her maid. Nevertheless, the disguises hold up as the play moves to its inevitable conclusion with love between the right and proper strangers blossoming. The play is well-written and captures the delicate nuances as well as the posturings of romance. It was not my favorite My Favorite is an independent synthpop band from Long Island, New York. They released two CDs: Love at Absolute Zero and Happiest Days of Our Lives. My Favorite broke up on September 14, 2005, when singer Andrea Vaughn left the band. of Stage Door's many excellent productions, but it was well-rendered.
