ROHRABACHER RENAMED TO HOUSE SCIENCE POST.

WASHINGTON - Rep. Dana Rohrabacher Dana Tyron Rohrabacher (born June 21, 1947, in Coronado, California) is an American politician, who has been a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives since 1989, currently representing California's At-large congressional district. , R-Huntington Beach, was reappointed Monday as chairman of the House science subcommittee on space and aeronautics, giving him a key role in Congress' investigation of the shuttle Columbia disaster.

Rohrabacher, who faced removal from the post under the Republican leadership's self-imposed, three-term limit on chairmanships, was granted a one-term waiver in the wake of the Columbia tragedy.

``I had been thinking of trying to stay on, but this disaster convinced me,'' Rohrabacher said.

``We need to find out what caused the Columbia disaster. We also need to come up with a new, clear strategy for our space program and make changes where they are needed.''

Rohrabacher joins a potent lineup of California Republicans holding chairmanships in the new Congress.
