``It's a metaphor of fighting to succeed, getting up and getting out of what society has given you, remaking yourself. America is all about remaking oneself.'' While the robe was worn by Stallone in the Academy Award-winning original film, the other items are from sequels. The hat and gloves, for example, come from ``Rocky II'' while the shoes are from ``Rocky III.'' The museum began talking with the actor and producer two years ago about acquiring the pieces. Discussions were delayed by this year's production of ``Rocky Balboa,'' which opens Dec. 20, giving Rocky the chance to come out of retirement and enter the ring again. Bowers said Stallone had kept the items in his personal collection. ``He said, `I keep everything,''' Bowers said. ``The items are in amazingly good condition, considering they were used for filmmaking under hot lights.'' The exhibit features more than 150 well-known objects, including Dorothy's ruby slippers from ``The Wizard of Oz'' and Thomas Jefferson's Bible. lisa.friedman(at)langnews.com (202) 662-8731 CAPTION(S): photo Photo: STALLONE |
