RANBIR Kapoor and Vidya Balan won the top honours at the 13th IIFA Awards in Singapore in an evening that saw Rockstar bag five trophies, followed by Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara which won four.

Ranbir won the Best Actor award for Rockstar . He also shared the Hottest Bollywood Couple trophy with debutante co- star Nargis Fakhri.

Vidya Balan, expectedly, won the Best Actress award for The Dirty Picture . The highlight of the grand finale, held at Kalang Indoor Stadium, however, was a smashing performance by the father- son duo of Rishi and Ranbir Kapoor. Dressed in similar shimmering jackets, the Kapoors put up a dance medley to the beats of their biggest hits.

For a Bollywood night, IIFA was surprisingly a very Tamil affair.

A. R. Rahman spoke in Tamil when he took to the stage as did Rekha, who won a special award for Outstanding Achievement in Indian Cinema. Sridevi, who went on stage to hand over the Best Film award, also made the announcement in Tamil.

Shahid Kapoor, who hosted the event along with Farhan Akhtar, danced on the remixed version of the superhit Tamil song Aapdi podey from Kamal Haasan's film Appu Raja . When Prabhu Deva joined Shahid on stage to shake a leg, the audience was left screaming for more.

Dia Mirza announced a special category, IIFA Utsavam, to award the talent in South Indian cinema. And when Prakash Raj won the Best Villain's trophy for Singham , Tamil actress Radhika and her actor hubby Sarathkumar were there on stage to give him the award. Clearly, the organisers were out to woo the Tamil segment in Singapore that comprises a large chunk of the Indian population here.

The other thing that left the audience in splits was sperm jokes. Innuendo- laden humour was the order of the evening as Shahid walked on to the stage dressed as Dr Chaddha from the film Vicky Donor , with small disposable cups and a huge jug to take ' donations' from the people of the film industry and search for the right Aryaputra.

Boman Irani was given the jug, which Ranbir later carried to the stage when he walked up to collect one of his awards. " I am returning this jug because Boman's son requested me that he doesn't want his brothers floating in this world," joked Ranbir.

Ribald slapstick coexisted with the sentimental strains typical to an average Bollywood blockbuster.

Shabana Azmi was seen touching Liv Ullmann's feet saying she considered the Norwegian legend her " guru", a gesture that moved Ullman to tears. " Men might go to moon, but they cannot touch each other. But in these three days I was so touched by the warmth of people from India," Ullman said.

Vidya Balan, looking resplendent in a black sari designed by Masaba, was heard telling people " to celebrate the non- skinny look". Considering her IIFA win for The Dirty Picture is the latest the clean sweep she has made in the awards circuit this year, celebrating the curvaceous beauty is what she definitely has been doing.
