``We're going to celebrate the history and growth of a little station that truly went from worst to first,'' said Scott Mason <noinclude>

Mason, a KROQ staffer for more than 20 years who still hosts Sunday morning's public-affairs talk fest ``Open Line'' in addition to his engineering duties, says the reunion dinner At Chinese New Year a reunion dinner is held on New Year's Eve where members of the family, near and far, get together for celebration.  listeners as well as past and present KROQ employees are expected to attend.

``I thought it would be great if everyone could get together and chat about our experiences,'' said reunion organizer Darrell Wayne, who worked at the station in the late '70s as program director, operations director, chief engineer and afternoon host. ``KROQ has such a diverse history, from Top 40 to progressive-rock to punk to new wave to alternative, so the cast of characters is pretty impressive.''

Among the 200 folks expected to attend Saturday are such familiar names and voices as Rodney Bingenheimer Rodney Bingenheimer (pronounced IPA: /ˈbɪŋənhaɪmɚ/), (December 15, 1946 -) born in Mountain View, California, is a renowned Hollywood personality and radio disc jockey on the well-known Los Angeles , Jed ``the Fish'' Gould, Gene ``Bean'' Baxter, Sluggo, Mason, Doc on the Roq, Ramondo, Rachael Donahue, Mark Goodman Mark Goodman (born October 11) is a radio DJ, TV personality, and actor. ``Reaction to the reunion has been varied,'' admits Wayne, 45, who works for a Ventura County aerospace company. ``The record companies said, 'Why would we want to get together with a bunch of old DJs?' But the station has been supportive without doing any promotion.''

Wayne said the dinner - which costs $60 for singles and $100 for couples - will include testimonials, audio clips, memorabilia and photos.

``There was a lot of sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll rock 'n' roll: see rock music. , and people will stand up and tell their stories,'' he said. ``For years, KROQ has been a star factory.''

KROQ program director Kevin Weatherly credits the growth of the top-rated ``Kevin & Bean'' morning show and the Infinity-owned Burbank station's emphasis on new music for its current ratings success.

time to develop and, beyond that, we've always tried to be cutting edge in terms of exposing new artists,'' he said.

Asked if he would attend Saturday's reunion, Weatherly said he preferred to look forward rather than back.

``KROQ's been around a long time and a lot of great people have been part of it,'' Weatherly said. ``My idea of the good old days was earlier this month when we hit No. 1. But that's just me.''
