Until the drawing, the Softail is on display at Lancaster Harley Davidson, 1759 W. Ave. J-12. The winner will be responsible for the taxes, license and any other fees. The veterans home amenities fund, created by a citizens committee, will pay for televisions, gardening tools, magazines and other items not expected to be covered in the official budget. The home, to be named for the late Sen. W.J. ``Pete'' Knight, is expected to start construction in 2007, following years of delays. It will be financed by a bond approved by California voters in 2000, supplemented by expected federal aid. The home will have quarters for 60 veterans, plus room for 50 more in an adult day-care program. Already in the amenities fund is a total of more than $60,000, past the halfway mark toward the $100,000 goal. Other fund-raising projects being considered include a concert or dance, with an 18-piece orchestra whose members have volunteered to perform. Menus for the week at the senior life nutrition sites in Lancaster and Palmdale have been announced.
