At first glance, there isn't much about Byung-Hyun Kim
This is a Korean name; the family name is Kim.
Byung-Hyun Kim (born January 19, 1979 in Gwangju, South Korea) is a right-handed submarine/sidearm pitcher for the Florida Marlins.
that is terribly imposing. Not his build, which is slight. Not his track record, which includes two ninth-inning implosions in a World Series the Arizona Diamondbacks This article is about the baseball team. For other uses, see Diamondback.

somehow won in spite of the fact he was their closer. And certainly not the horrendous record and inflated ERA he brought into his start at Dodger Stadium     [  on Wednesday night.

And yet somehow, the submarining Colorado right-hander has become the stuff of the Dodgers' nightmares. This time, he flirted with a no-hitter for four-plus innings and made the offensively deficient Dodgers look as punchless as ever into the seventh before a scoreless game finally was turned over to the respective bullpens.

The Dodgers wound up losing 2-1 to the Rockies in front of 40,196, the game getting away when slumping rookie reliever Steve Schmoll Stephen John Schmoll (born February 4, 1980 in Silver Spring, Maryland) is a Minor League Baseball pitcher in the New York Mets organization. He bats and throws right-handed.

ran into more trouble in the eighth. But it was Kim who had long since set the tone, running his scoreless streak in two starts against the Dodgers this season to 12 2/3 innings.

Largely because of Kim, Dodgers rookie D.J. Houlton was left with a no-decision for the second consecutive start since he began using a stand-in hitter during his pregame bullpen sessions, despite the fact he has allowed three runs on six hits over 13 1/3 innings. Largely because of Kim, the Dodgers went 1 for 7 with runners in scoring position In the sport of baseball, a baserunner is said to be in scoring position when he is on second or third base. The distinction between being on first base and second or third base is that a runner on first can usually only score if the batter hits an extra base hit, while a runner on , failing to take advantage of Kim's five walks. Kim's ERA against all other teams combined is 6.16.

``Tonight, I think he was hard to pattern,'' said Dodgers second baseman second baseman

Jeff Kent, who went 0 for 4 and stranded two runners on second base. ``He was throwing balls that I don't think were where he really wanted them to go, but they were good enough to get us out.''

The no-hit bid ended with one out in the bottom of the fifth, when Jose Cruz Jr. followed a walk to Dioner Navarro with a blooper that fell only a few feet inside the right-field foul line. Cruz legged out a double, barely eluding the tag at second after Jorge Piedra (Notre Dame High of Sherman Oaks) got the ball back in quickly. But Houlton struck out, and Oscar Robles grounded out, stranding Navarro on third.

``We got people on base, but we couldn't get the big hit,'' Dodgers manager Jim Tracy said. ``In the past, whenever (Kim) has struggled, it always seemed like with that sweeping motion of his, the ball was always up in the zone. Tonight, everything was down, and he didn't give us a lot of opportunities to get some real good whacks. He did a nice job.''
