ROCKERS, BIKERS READY FOR RIDE.
CASTAIC - Sheryl Crow and Mick Fleetwood & Friends are heading to Castaic Lake next month to party and celebrate with nearly 25,000 motorcyclists for the 19th annual Love Ride.
The riders will be pulling out Nov. 10 not only to raise money for charity, but to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. The musical talents, along with Jefferson Starship, Grand Marshal Jay Leno, Honorary Grand Marshal Peter Fonda and a slew of celebrity bikers will be leading the pack on a 50-mile caravan from Glendale to Castaic Lake.
``It's great entertainment and it's for a good cause,'' said Walter Moore, the event's spokesman.
Registration begin sat 6 a.m. at Harley-Davidson of Glendale. An hour later, Jefferson Starship will take the stage and entertain the bikers while they wait to start the ride about 9:15 a.m.
Gates will open at 10 a.m. at Castaic Lake, with Mick Fleetwood & Friends performing at 11:45 a.m. followed by Sheryl Crow at 1:15 p.m. while riders enjoy barbecue from Tony Roma's. The minimum donation is $60, or $50 by signing up in advance online or at Harley-Davidson of Glendale before Nov. 5.
``It's the largest motorcycle fund-raiser in the world and it's a chance to see 25,000 motorcycles,'' Moore said.
Participants who make larger donations will be qualified to enter a drawing to receive a variety of prizes, including a 2003 100th Anniversary Harley-Davidson V-Rod and a 2003 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150. Prizes will be given away at the end of the day.
Motorists are also invited to join the ride that will benefit Reading By 9, the Muscular Dystrophy Association and other charities. The event has raised more than $15 million since it began taking place. Officials hope to raise about $1 million this year.
