IT has been a bad year for celebrity marriages - and probably the most high-profile of the splits was Paul McCartney Noun 1. Paul McCartney - English rock star and bass guitarist and songwriter who with John Lennon wrote most of the music for the Beatles (born in 1942)

This was closely followed by Britney Spears who is divorcing bad boy husband Kevin Federline and the battles over their kids and her fortune have begun.

It's the Irish stars who are leading by example and proving they can stand the test of time from rock god Bono to pop star Ronan Keating.

BONO AND ALI HEWSON: MARRIED 24 YEARS

ROCK romances are notoriously short-lived - destroyed amid a blizzard of drinking, drugs and endless touring.

 Bono, 46, has proved you can be a rock god and still have a normal family life.

He's been married to stunning brunette Ali for 24 years and has four kids - daughters Jordan, 17, and 15-year-old Memphis Eve and sons Elijah, seven, and five-year-old John Abraham.

The couple started dating in 1975 and married in August 1982 at a chapel on the Guinness family estate.

Ali explained their unusual life as a rock couple, saying: "It can be really difficult to re-adjust to having someone living back in the house.

"I can't help thinking, 'What are you doing in my bed?' or 'What are you doing in my bathroom?' or 'Why are you leaving your clothes all over my house?'

"Bono always says that he feels like a bit of litter around the house, that I just want to tidy him away. But apart from the practical adjustments like that, I usually find that we are much closer together after a separation."

LIAM NEESON AND NATASHA RICHARDSON: MARRIED 12 YEARS BALLYMEN

A man Neeson married actress Natasha Richardson in 1994 and are regarded as one of the most solid relationships in Hollywood.

They have two sons, Michael Richard, 11, and 10-year-old Daniel Jack.

They live on a huge estate in Millbrook, New York Millbrook is a village in Dutchess County, New York, United States. The population was 1,429 at the 2000 census. It is considered one of the wealthiest towns in the State of New York and is often thought of as a rural and more low-key version of The Hamptons. , and live their life as privately as possible.

Neeson, 52, recently said: "Natasha is the woman that keeps my world spinning. I think my life would be in chaos without her."

RONAN AND YVONNE KEATING: MARRIED EIGHT YEARS

WHEN Ronan Keating and his lover Yvonne disappeared to an island hideaway to tie the knot, few thought the whirlwind romance would stand the test of time.

The pop star and model caused a media frenzy when they wed on Nevis Island on April 30 - without even telling their friends or family.

Now they are regarded as one of pop's most stable marriages.

They have three kids - Jack, seven, Marie, five, and 13- / month-old Ali - and rarely step out in public without each other. Ronan, 29, _ says they've proved t their doubters wrong. He explained: "When I we got married there I were so many people ] whispering under their breath that it would, never last. Now we are happier than ever." It is characterized by the abnormal development of communication skills, social skills, and reasoning.  which lead Keith to become involved in raising awareness of the condition.

The star admitted that he had to take drastic action to keep his marriage strong. He explained: "When I was acting in Coronation Street I was away from home five days a week and it was really tough because we missed each other so much.

"I decided that I needed to get back to Ireland and be with Lisa. We are much stronger for it."

THE EDGE AND MORLEIGH STEINBERG: TOGETHER 13 YEARS

THE U2 guitarist may only have been married for four years but his relationship with dancer Morleigh has been going strong for over decade.

They met in 1990 when Morleigh was a dancer on U2's Zoo tour and had a daughter, Sian Beatrice, in 1997. Their son Levi was born in September 1999 and the couple married in June 2002.

NICKY BYRNE AND

GEORGINA AHERN: TOGETHER 12 YEARS

WHEN Nicky married the Taoiseach's daughter Georgina Ahern in 2003 it was the icing on the cake for their fairytale romance.

The couple have been dating since they were at school and are now expecting their first child in May.

They married at the Catholic Church of St Pierre et St Paul in Gallardon, Eure-et-Loir, France in August 2003.

The wedding was covered by a celebrity magazine in a exclusive deal which is believed to have netted them more than EUR EUR
