ROC, ITT OFFER COMPUTER COURSES TO KIDS, ADULTS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS' TRAINING FREE.

SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  - Local high school and adult students can still enroll in advanced computer technology courses for credit offered by the Hart school district and ITT Technical Institute ITT Technical Institute (often shortened to ITT Tech) is a private, for-profit, technical institute with over 85 campuses in over 30 states of the United States. It was founded in 1946 as Educational Services, Inc. and has been headquartered in Carmel, Indiana, since 1969. .

The collaboration, launched more than a year ago through the district's Regional Occupational Program, has provided career-minded students with training - at no cost to high school students - valued at $3,600.

The courses - computer and drafting design, computer and electronic engineering technology and information technology - are held at ITT's Sylmar location and include scholarship opportunities for those who continue their studies at the training facility.

``They have a very up-to-date lab there, and we're in a space crunch out here, so it works well,'' said Rita Thomas, administrator of career development and work force preparation for the William S William, crown prince of Germany

``This is college-level work that really prepares people for careers in information technology (like) building computers and software,'' Thomas said. ``And we're working on getting students college credit for the courses.''

The training program is open to Hart district students as well as those from other districts, Thomas said.

The current semester began Aug. 19, but students can still apply through Friday.

Computer drafting and design, which meets from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays, combines techniques in drafting and graphic communications. Computer and electronic engineering technology studies circuits, systems and specialized spe·cial·ize

Information technology class, which meets from 3:30 to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, covers the process of design, development, implementation and upgrade of computer-based information systems in software and hardware.
