``Gang suppression is a top priority. We must improve public safety and protect young people from choosing lives of crime, drugs and bad behavior,'' Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich Michael Dennis Antonovich (born 1939 in Los Angeles, California) is a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors representing the Fifth District, which covers northern Los Angeles County, the Antelope, Santa Clarita, Pasadena, and parts of the San Fernando and San  said.

The $1.1 million will pay for overtime through June 30, the end of the fiscal year, for the six north county officers and sergeant, and for eight more patrolling other Los Angeles County parks elsewhere.

The county budget for the coming fiscal year is expected to have money for hiring additional officers to conduct the patrols, said Anna Pembedjian, an aide to Antonovich.

The extra patrols have started already, she said. The park patrols will work 10 hours a day, seven days a week, essentially from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m., she said.
