ROBBERY SUSPECTS NAMED; 2 STILL AT LARGE IN STORE HEIST.

Police released the identities of two robbery suspects Monday who were shot to death by the owner of a jewelry store on Valentine's Day Valentine's Day: see Saint Valentine's Day.

Ruben Herrera, 29, and Eilia Moran, 35, both of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , were killed about 1 p.m. Saturday while fleeing from Segovia Jewelry in the 16100 block of Victory Boulevard Victory Boulevard is a major thoroughfare on Staten Island, measuring approximately 8.0 miles (12.87 km) and stretching from the west shore community of Travis to the upper east shore communities of St. George and Tompkinsville. , said Los Angeles police Detective Mel Arnold of the Van Nuys Division.

Two other suspects fled on foot and have eluded capture, Arnold said. At least two of the suspects were armed with handguns, he said.

Store owner Nelson Segovia came out firing after being robbed at gunpoint by Herrera, Moran and the two others, Arnold said.

Prosecutors have not yet decided whether the shooting was in self-defense (Law) in protection of self, - it being permitted in law to a party on whom a grave wrong is attempted to resist the wrong, even at the peril of the life of the assailiant.

Among the factors that will be weighed when prosecutors consider whether Segovia committed a crime will be whether he was in fear for his life, said Officer Arthur Reyna.

``If one of the guys turned and aimed at the individual and he returned fire'' then the shooting might be considered justified, he said. ``If he's doing it in anger or retaliation RETALIATION. The act by which a nation or individual treats another in the same manner that the latter has treated them. For example, if a nation should lay a very heavy tariff on American goods, the United States would be justified in return in laying heavy duties on the manufactures and  for being robbed then he would have a problem.''

Segovia's shop remained closed Monday. He could not be reached for comment.

Detectives worked Monday to identify the remaining two suspects, each of whom was described as a Latino male. One was 5 feet 9 inches and 200 pounds and wore a black hat and black jacket, Arnold said.
