The exact amount taken in the string of robberies has not been disclosed by police. ``It's kind of chump change, what these guys are getting, when you consider the time they're gonna get when they get caught,'' Wich said.

Investigators said they were led to Lewis' whereabouts by tips called in by residents who saw his photograph in a Daily News story about area bank robberies.

Two men identified as Lewis' accomplices continue to elude authorities and are believed to be in San Bernardino County.

They are: Jovan Woodard, an African-American, 19, 5-feet 6-inches tall, and weighing 150 pounds; and Clarence Engram enĀ·gram

Anyone with information regarding Engram or Woodard can call FBI agents at (310) 477-6565, or Los Angeles police Detectives Norm Jackson or Tom Wich at (213) 485-0780.

Since February, the trio is believed responsible for 30 bank heists, with the majority in the Valley. But police said they believe the remaining suspects have left the area and have struck three banks in San Bernardino County.

Investigators say the trio generally switches roles from one heist to the next. The getaway car is described as a 1988 tan Ford Thunderbird coupe with a tinted rear window and white license plate.

But one aspect of the heists remains constant - a lone member of the trio enters a bank, walks up to a teller, and presents a crudely written demand note on white paper to a teller.

Although none has brandished a weapon, the men-at-large are considered armed and dangerous.
