The couple - both about 65 years old, and the woman reliant on a walker - had just gotten out of their car at their home in the 4300 block of Conestoga Canyon Road about 1:30 p.m. when they were approached by the men, both about 19 and one carrying what later proved to be a toy pistol.

``It's a good possibility that these suspects watched the victims at the bank,'' said Deputy Brad Reinford.

Officials said the man put up a brief struggle with one of the bandits, causing him to drop the gun he was carrying. The gun turned out to be a plastic toy, deputies said.

Authorities said the same men might have tried and failed hours earlier to rob an apartment manager who had just returned from another Palmdale bank.
