This week's earlier heists by two lone robbers differed sharply from Friday's robbery, in which the three suspects stormed the bank at 152 Hillcrest Drive.

``It certainly would be considered a bold type of robbery,'' said sheriff's Deputy Harold Hanley. ``It went down pretty fast. We're obviously concerned whenever we have a bank robbery in Thousand Oaks, being the safe community that we are. Crime can occur anywhere.''

Witnesses told authorities that after the trio entered the bank, two ran behind the tellers' counter and emptied cash drawers while a third tried unsuccessfully to gain access to an area where additional money was kept.

``Their reaction was pretty much disbelief,'' Hanley said of the six employees and four customers who were in the bank. ``Two customers were sitting in chairs doing transaction work. They pretty much just froze. I'm not sure if they got down on the floor. Everybody else got on the floor.''

The three robbers fled in a gold 1984 Oldsmobile Delta sedan, driven by a fourth suspect who had been waiting in the bank parking lot. The car, reported stolen in Los Angeles, was found minutes later in nearby parking lot, where authorities believe the robbers changed vehicles.

None of the robbers - described only as being in their 20s or 30s - brandished a weapon.

Brent Robbins, a special agent with the FBI's Ventura office, said he was surprised that no weapons were displayed.

``Weapons are usually used in a takeover robbery,'' he said. ``While one person watches the interior of the bank - the movement of customers and employees - other robbers will jump the counter to empty all the cash drawers on the teller line. The more brazen ones will demand to get into the vault.''

FBI agents retrieved film from the bank's surveillance cameras, which authorities believe captured at least portions of the heist.
