The dye pack is an incendiary device that explodes in a shower of colored ink, and sometimes tear gas, intended to permanently stain the stolen exploded, spilling cash on the street, and one of the men was hit by a car. The 2 p.m. incident occurred at the bank in the 20000 block of Ventura Boulevard Ventura Boulevard is one of the primary east-west thouroughfares in the San Fernando Valley; as it was originally a part of the El Camino Real (the trail between Spanish missions), Ventura Boulevard is the oldest route in the San Fernando Valley. It was also U.S. , said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Jay Bender. Bender said one of the suspects carried a sawed-off shotgun. As one of the suspects was fleeing, the dye pack exploded, Bender said.
