BURBANK - Two City Council members said Thursday they will try to help a citizen group that failed to qualify a ballot measure calling for airport expansion limits.

 the petitions and make a motion at Tuesday's council meeting to have the measure go before voters in February 2001.

``I think the people should have a right to vote on it,'' said Mayor Stacey Murphy. ``They worked really hard for it.''

If it passes, the council gesture could save the grassroots group called Restore Our Airport Rights from a costly and time-consuming legal battle.

The group known as ROAR this week submitted more than 7,500 signatures on a petition aimed at putting a measure on next year's municipal ballot calling for a curfew curfew [O.Fr.,=cover fire], originally a signal, such as the ringing of a bell, to damp the fire, extinguish all lights in the dwelling, and retire for the night. The custom originated as a precaution against fires and was common throughout Europe in the Middle Ages. , and noise and other limitations on any airport expansion approved by the city.

ROAR Chairman Howard Rothenbach and treasurer Ted McConkey stood by the validity of the signatures and met with an attorney late Thursday to discuss their options, including the possibility of an appeal.
