ROAMING IN WISCONSIN/ILLINOIS IS A BREEZE FOR CELLULAR ONE CUSTOMERS

ATLANTA, May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- There are now 23,000 square miles where dialing is as simple as a cellular phone number.
For Cellular One(R) customers in eastern and southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois, roaming is easier than ever with The One Network, which eliminates the need for callers to use complex dialing codes when calling cellular customers traveling within the largest calling area in Wisconsin. Cellular One's cellular "footprint" now ranges north through Door County; south to Rockford, Ill.; east to Milwaukee, and west to the Mississippi River.
Previously, four different roamer access codes were needed to locate a cellular customer roaming in the area. In addition, the caller needed to know where the roamer was in order to correctly place the call.
"The advantage of The One Network is that it ties the calling area in Wisconsin and northern Illinois together," said Mike Flanigan, general manager and president, Cellular One-Eastern Wisconsin. "Now finding a cellular customer here is as easy as dialing the customer's seven- or 10-digit cellular phone number."
Eric Hertz, general manager, Cellular One-Western Wisconsin/Illinois, added: "Our cellular service 'footprint' now extends nearly 23,000 miles, the largest calling area in Wisconsin. The advantages to our customers are obvious...it's easier to receive calls and to use the service."
Flanigan added that this change will now allow easier access to roamers without knowing their exact location. Certain long distance charges may still apply (when applicable) but from a customer's perspective, he or she can now receive calls more easily while traveling within the system, he said.
The system, which went into operation May 7, is a result of a partnership between Cellular One markets in Madison and Milwaukee and surrounding RSAs (Rural Service Areas). The following cities and county are part of The One Network system in the area: Appleton, Beloit, Door County, Fond du Lac, Green Bay, Janesville, Kenosha, Lake Geneva, Madison, Milwaukee, Oshkosh, Portage, Racine, Sheboygan and Belvidere, Wis., and Rockford, Ill. (Not all cities in the area are listed.)
In addition, Cellular One offers Customer Care Service by dialing Star 611 on the cellular phone or by dialing a 1-800 number. There are 10 sales and service centers for Cellular One customers in Wisconsin and Rockford, Ill.
Cellular One in Wisconsin/Illinois is owned and operated by American Cell (BSCC) of Atlanta. BSCC's companies provide cellular service to more than 1.5 million customers in markets managed by BellSouth (NYSE: BLS) and its partners in 15 states nationwide.
