Officials said Zmrukhtyan accused a 52-year-old motorcyclist from Ventura County of swiping his car while driving along the Golden State Freeway. Zmrukhtyan then reportedly followed him to the restaurant.

``The suspect hits the victim several times in the head,'' Lewandowski said. ``The victim was knocked from his bike. He was using enough force to crack the surface on the helmet.''

The two then began to struggle for the hammer and the suspect began choking the victim while on the ground, police said.

``The victim feels that if it wasn't for his helmet he would be dead,'' Lewandowski said.

Witnesses called 911 and deputies found the two struggling in the parking lot, police said. A check of the suspect's car found no damage had occurred.

Zmrukhtyan, who was driving a rented Geo, was returning home after a visit to Bakersfield. He had two children in the vehicle with him who have been released to family members.

The victim suffered a bloody nose, numerous scratches, and soft-tissue bruising bruising
