 officers couldn't catch up with these scofflaws. Now that things are calmer - though some local roads won't be reopened for weeks - they've been told to start writing tickets, said CHP Officer Wendy Hahn.

In the Antelope Valley, a 2-year-old girl died early this week when her mother drove around a barricade and found herself in a torrent of water. Sheriff's homicide detectives are investigating and will turn over their findings to prosecutors to determine whether charges will be filed.

In Newhall, a Chevy Suburban and four pickup trucks were driven past a barricade on The Old Road and their occupants found themselves trapped in knee-high mud. One man got out of his car and took a few steps, but his shoes were sucked off by the muck and there he was, stuck, shoeless and chagrined, Hahn said.

Hahn said she was videotaping road damage at a closure on Vasquez Canyon Road and Sierra Highway Sierra Highway is a road in Southern California, United States. It runs from Tunnel Station near the north limit of the City of Los Angeles, where it intersects with San Fernando Road and Foothill Boulevard, as well as Interstate 5, and continues north to Mojave, mostly paralleling  - standing in full uniform by her squad car - and motorists streamed passed the barricade.
