Byline: Mary Schubert Daily News Staff Writer

A neighborhood street where a twin-engine plane crashed last week will remain closed until Nov. 1 so that the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is the largest municipal utility in the United States, serving 3.9 million residents in 2006. ``When the plane crash happened, five of our towers were damaged. One was completely destroyed,'' said Winifred Yancy, a spokeswoman for the DWP DWP Department of Work and Pensions (UK)

. ``In order to use the (electrical) corridor, we put up a temporary tower.''

The conductors atop the electrical transmission towers carry 500,000 volts, the highest voltage line in DWP's equipment and one that carries direct current, not alternating current, Yancy said.

``We use that line to transport power. However, none of our customers were affected because we were able to reroute power,'' she said. ``We have other sources to tap into.''

The road closure was necessary so DWP repair crews can install a new electrical tower to replace the one destroyed in the plane crash, she said. Nobody lives on the section of street that will be closed.

The crash in the residential neighborhood happened about 6:25 on a Sunday evening. The craft, which was traveling between General William J. Fox Field in Lancaster to Van Nuys Airport Van Nuys Airport (IATA: VNY, ICAO: KVNY, FAA LID: VNY) is a public airport located in Van Nuys, California in the San Fernando Valley, within the Los Angeles city limits. , disintegrated into numerous pieces and slammed onto a vacant field near Alaminos Drive and Featherstar Avenue.

The road closure will span Alaminos between Featherstar and Youngberry young·ber·ry

Rosedell Elementary School will send notes home with pupils explaining that the children can still walk that route to school.

``Traffic is detoured through Haskell Canyon (Road), Bouquet Canyon (Road) and Urbandale (Avenue,) in both directions,'' Rahmani said.

``There's nothing wrong with the road. (DWP) has high-voltage lines that go over the road,'' he said. ``Pedestrians can cross it. There's no hazard to them.''
