ROAD, SCHOOL BONDS APPROVED FOR BALLOT.Byline: Daily News LANCASTER -- Lancaster would get $4.3 million and Palmdale $4.4 million to repair and improve city streets under a bond measure that state lawmakers approved for the November ballot. Also going on the November ballot will be a $10.4 billion school construction bond that would provide the state's share for building new Antelope Valley high schools and Westside Union School District elementary and middle schools if those district's bond measures are passed June 6 by local voters. ``The bonds to fix our schools and roads have real reform ensuring we are not just spending tax dollars on bureaucrats pushing paper but actually using the dollars for roads and buildings,'' state Sen. George Runner, R-Lancaster, said in an announcement from his office. The $19.9 billion transportation bond includes $1 billion to California cities and $1 billion for California counties, allocated by population, to fix and improve streets and roads. If the bond passes, it also will provide money for state highways, which include the Antelope Valley Freeway, Assemblywoman Sharon Runner said. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is expected to sign the bond measures in the next few days. Each bond will go on the Nov. 7 ballot for voters statewide. |
