Tom Hayden Thomas Emmett "Tom" Hayden (born December 11, 1939) is an American social and political activist and politician, most famous for his involvement in the anti-war and civil rights movements of the 1960s. , Riordan filed his declaration of intent to seek a second four-year term with no public fanfare.

At stake in the election is the office of mayor, city attorney, city controller, eight City Council seats as well as three members each of the Los Angeles Board of Education and the Community College District. A majority vote will be needed to avoid a June runoff Runoff

Among incumbent city officials who filed as of Thursday were Councilman Mike Hernandez in the 1st District, Councilman Mike Feuer in the 5th District, Councilman Richard Alarcon in the 7th District, Councilwoman Rita Walters Rita Walters (1930-) is currently the commissioner of the Los Angeles Public Library. Prior to this position, she served on the Los Angeles City Council representing the 9th district. During that time, she chaired the Arts, Health & Humanities Committee.  in the 9th District, Councilwoman Jackie Goldberg Jackie Goldberg (born June 16, 1937) is an American politician and teacher, and a member of the Democratic Party. She is a former member of the California State Assembly.  in the 13th District and Councilman Rudy Svorinich Rudy Svorinich (born 1960) is a Republican who served on the Los Angeles City Council representing the 15th district. A resident of San Pedro, his diverse district also includes the community of Watts. He was elected to the council in 1993 and served two full terns.  in the 15th District.

Under the city process, candidates must file their declaration of intent by Monday. On that date, they will begin circulating nominating petitions that must be returned by Feb. 3. Each candidate much collect the signatures of 500 registered voters and pay a $300 filing fee. They can avoid the fee by submitting petitions with 1,000 registered voters.

Other mayoral candidates who filed include inventor Derek Armand Fuchs of Los Angeles, clerk James Dunlap of Los Angeles, newspaperman Leonard Shapiro of Los Angeles, legal researcher G. Juan Johnson of Los Angeles, civil rights activist Sandra Noble of Hollywood, real property manager Stanley Franklin Allen and John Bishop of North Hollywood, who listed no occupation.

In the city controller's race, businessman Michael Margolin of Van Nuys declared.

In council races, new declarations include:

Rose Marie (born August 15, 1923) is an actress who had a career as a child star under the name Baby Rose Marie
 Lopez of Los Angeles declared for the seat held by Councilman Hernandez.

3rd Council District: Businessman Mort Diamond of Canoga Park.

7th Council District: Businessman Ollie McCaulley of Panorama City also declared.

9th District: Police Officer Peter Torres of Los Angeles.

11th Council District: Former mayoral aide Georgia Mercer of Tarzana.

13th Council District: Garment worker Gale Ellen Shangold of Los Angeles.

15th Council District: Minister Mujahid Abdul-Karim of Los Angeles.

In Board of Education races:

District 2: Incumbent Victoria Castro.

District 6: Incumbent Julie Korenstein of Tarzana declared for re-election. Billy Bauman of Van Nuys also declared.

In Community College District races:

District 2: Lawyer Andrew Kim of Los Angeles.

District 4: Businesswoman Marilyn Grunwald of Van Nuys, attorney James C. Regan and Los Angeles.
