 from ages 2 to 50 will compete this weekend at Ice Station Valencia in the 3rd annual Ice Skating Institute The Ice Skating Institute (formerly the Ice Skating Institute of America) is a trade association for ice rinks, and also an international governing body for recreational figure skating.  Open Championships.

On Friday, the youngsters, some in costume, began practicing at dawn for the show, which will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 12:15 to 8:15 p.m. Sunday at the ice rink, 27745 N. Smyth Drive.

The institute is a training program for recreational skaters - talented athletes who skate more for fun and recreation than for top competitions, said Bridget Dunn, director of the local skating school.

The Ice Station expects hundreds of skaters from as far away as Las Vegas Las Vegas (läs vā`gəs), city (1990 pop. 258,295), seat of Clark co., S Nev.; inc. 1911. It is the largest city in Nevada and the center of one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the United States. , Dunn said. The competition features techniques as basic as the proper way to fall on ice, and how to get up, to more skillful skill·ful
