RINGDALE UNVEILS ENHANCED PROXY ROUTER AND DHCP SERVER.

Internetworking specialist Ringdale has unveiled its new "IP Pinhole" Proxy Router and DHCP server A server in the network or a service within a server that assigns IP addresses. See DHCP. . The "IP pinhole" feature offers increased flexibility and allows local IP addresses to be mapped directly to specific ports on a LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used. . This will then allow remote (Internet or Intranet) connection to a local web server or printer while maintaining the internal security of the rest of the local network.

Ringdale's Proxy Router is an Ethernet device that can manage installations where a large number of IP devices have to be connected to a LAN for access to the Internet or Intranet providing full browser and FTP FTP
 in full file transfer protocol

Internet protocol that allows a computer to send files to or receive files from another computer. Like many Internet resources, FTP works by means of a client-server architecture; the user runs client software to connect to
capabilities. The device has two primary functions; firstly, it has the ability to proxy route IP, and secondly it acts as a DHCP Server (local side) and DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) Software that automatically assigns temporary IP addresses to client stations logging into an IP network. It eliminates having to manually assign permanent "static" IP addresses. DHCP software runs in servers and routers.  Client (remote side). This means that the device can have one fixed (registered) IP address that goes to the backbone through and through; thoroughly; entirely.

LAN. The local side is where the IP address is translated into many DHCP Server allocated addresses, and vice versa VICE VERSA. On the contrary; on opposite sides. .

This allows one class-C network to be used for many users. Ringdale's Proxy Router isolates the local connection from the backbone connection allowing many devices with DHCP Servers to be attached to one backbone, thus extending the number of IP users on a single class-C network. It enables up to 252 devices to share one registered IP address whilst at the same time controlling access to the network. This ensures complete network security, making it ideal for deployment by ISP's, CATV (Community Antenna TV) The original name for cable TV. It used a single antenna at the highest location in the community in order to deliver a quality signal to homes in areas with hilly terrain or other interference.  providers and for small networks in schools, hospitals and hotels. The "Pinhole" feature allows local IP addresses to be mapped directly to specific port numbers. This means that specific devices can be contacted through the security of the proxy server Also called a "proxy," it is a computer system or router that breaks the connection between sender and receiver. Functioning as a relay between client and server, proxy servers are used to help prevent an attacker from invading the private network.  by using the proxy router IP address and mapping ports to specific local IP address. For example, a web server running on the local side may be accessible remotely from the "outside" via http or ftp. Similarly, a local printer can be available for printing via port 9100 and a device can be "pinged" through the Proxy Router to check the network status.

The Proxy Router can be managed either locally or remotely using Ringdale's network management software PeripheralVision, which is also used to set-up the address range, Sub-Net Mask, as well as the pinhole options on the Proxy Router.
