An integrated bodily response to an antigen, especially one mediated by lymphocytes and involving recognition of antigens by specific antibodies or previously sensitized lymphocytes.
.

The center has discovered that B cell scaffold protein with ankyrin repeats (BANK), a kind of adapter molecule, inhibits the immune response of the B cell. Specifically, the center has confirmed that BANK helps increase the production of IgM antibodies, suppressing the activity of the B cell and inhibits the excessive immune response.

Further, the center has revealed that BANK regulates the B cell activity by the intermediary of CD40, a kind of intercellular adhesion molecule Intercellular adhesion molecules are members a family of cell adhesion molecules. They include the following:
  • ICAM1 (see also CD54)
  • ICAM2
  • ICAM3
  • ICAM4 (see also ICAM4)
  • ICAM5
.

The center expects that these findings will shed light on the research of various infections, immune deficiency immune deficiency
