RIGHTS HEARING PLANNED : U.S. COMMISSION TO CONVENE IN L.A.

Responding to the clubbing of two illegal immigrants by Riverside County deputies, the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights said it will schedule a hearing in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  on law enforcement and community relations 1. The relationship between military and civilian communities.
2. Those public affairs programs that address issues of interest to the general public, business, academia, veterans, Service organizations, military-related associations, and other non-news media entities.

The bipartisan federal commission was created in 1957 to advise the president and Congress on issues relating to relating to relate prepconcernant

The commission had been mulling such a hearing following the taped claims of police brutality and racism made by former LAPD 1. LAPD - Link Access Procedure on the D channel.

However, the April 1 beating of the two Mexican nationals caused enough concern among commissioners that they decided to meet May 10 to schedule a hearing in Los Angeles.

Commission Vice Chairman Cruz Reynoso said the hearing will allow residents to air concerns over alleged cases of law enforcement brutality and racism.

Reynoso, a former state Supreme Court justice who teaches at UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles

, said tension between residents and law enforcement personnel following controversial cases ``has sadly been a problem we have seen in every large city in this country, including Los Angeles.''
