RIDDELL SPORTS ISSUES STATEMENT REGARDING PRETRIAL MOTION

NEW YORK, July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Riddell Sports Inc. (NASDAQ: RIDL) announced today that the New Jersey bankruptcy court denied Riddell's pretrial motion to dismiss a fraudulent conveyance suit on the grounds that the statute of limitations had expired. The conveyance suit was brought by MacGregor Sporting Goods, Inc., which filed for bankruptcy court protection in 1989, and its unsecured creditor's committee seeking rescission or damages in connection with sales in 1988 and 1989 of certain assets to Riddell, including the football protective equipment division and certain trademark rights. A Riddell spokesman stated that the decision was limited to the pretrial procedural issue concerning the timeliness of the claims against Riddell, and that the judge rendered no opinion on the merits of the case. "Riddell intends to continue to vigorously defend against this suit," the spokesman continued, "and believes it has meritorious defenses."
Riddell Sports Inc. is the world's leading manufacturer and reconditioner of football helmets. The company sells football helmets, shoulder pads and other sports protective equipment under the Riddell brand, and provides reconditioning services under the All American name. The company also licenses the Riddell and MacGregor trademarks for use on athletic apparel, footwear and other sports equipment.
