RICOH WILL OEM CO-DEVELOPED FAX & VOICE SERVER SYSTEMS FROM BROOKTROUT;
 AGREEMENT ENSURES STRONG ENTRY INTO FAX & VOICE SYSTEMS MARKET
 WEST CALDWELL, N.J., and NEEDHAM, Mass., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- In its first major OEM marketing agreement with a U.S. vendor in many years, Ricoh Corporation today announced it will soon begin marketing fax and voice servers from Brooktrout Technology, Inc., Needham.
 The private-label agreement calls for Ricoh to market Brooktrout products under the Ricoh-brand name. The first product released under the agreement will be Ricoh's first fax-on-demand system, scheduled for availability in October. This system will have four ports and an 80- or 200-megabyte hard drive, holding about 2,000 or 5,000 documents. A follow-up product, which will be available in 1993, will integrate a variety of voice and fax applications with computer technologies.
 Eventually, Ricoh will offer branded products in all categories of fax server products, from entry-level to high-end, according to Ricoh marketing executives. Ricoh will sell its new fax and voice integrated products through its large national direct sales organization.
 Ricoh is entering into this agreement at a time when BIS Strategic Decisions, Norwell, Mass. projects that the market for LAN and centralized fax server products will grow from revenues of $38.12 million last year to $450.08 million in 1995.
 "With these products, we will be able to address customer demands for integrated fax and voice communications solutions," said Taiji Saito, senior vice president, Direct Division of Ricoh's National Marketing Group. "All of these fax server system products complement our broad line of stand-alone fax models, permitting Ricoh to provide our customers with a total fax solution, improving customer satisfaction."
 Eric Giler, president of Brooktrout Technology, said, "This agreement underscores the recognition worldwide of Brooktrout's leadership role in developing innovative integrated voice and facsimile systems. Also, Ricoh's market reach greatly increases access to our technology. We're thrilled with the alliance."
 Brooktrout, founded in 1984, is a leader in developing, manufacturing and marketing voice processing systems with voice-mail, automated attendant and voice response functions; fax and voice boards for use in PC-based fax and voice systems, and fax-on-demand systems. Brooktrout has a U.S. patent on the two-call method used in its fax-on- demand systems. In addition, the company was the first to introduce a landmark patent for facsimile document retrieval; integrated multi- channel voice and fax cards; DID (direct inward dialing) for fax routing; and Unix support in the facsimile market. In 1991, Brooktrout appeared in the Inc. "500" list of the nation's fastest growing companies and in the New England Business list of the region's 100 fastest-growing firms.
 Ricoh is a longtime leader in facsimile communications and has developed and marketed products that integrate fax and computer communications since 1983. In the U.S., Ricoh has marketed the minicomputer-based RM8000 facsimile mailing system for the commercial market and the RF2020 high-end server for the telecommunications carrier market.
 Ricoh pioneered facsimile communications technology, marketing the world's first digital fax (1974), the world's first plain-paper laser fax (1983), and the world's first digital copier-fax (1987). The company's current products range from the portable RICOH PF-1, which is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the smallest fax capable of sending and receiving letter-size documents, to the minicomputer- based RM8000. Ricoh is the official worldwide facsimile sponsor of the 1992 Olympic Games.
 Ricoh facsimile server products are marketed by the company's National Marketing Group, West Caldwell, N.J. For customer information, call 201-882-2535.
