RHYMES, REASONS SOUGHT BY CALTRANS.

Byline: Daily News

Sitting in traffic with plenty time? Seems a good time to think up a rhyme rhyme or rime, the most prominent of the literary artifices used in versification. Although it was used in ancient East Asian poetry, rhyme was practically unknown to the ancient Greeks and Romans. .

Driver safety's the theme of this Caltrans game. The hope is that teens don't don't

The state Transportation Department is kicking off an online poetry contest for teenagers to get them to think about safety on the road.

Caltrans, schmaltrans? Not. The top prize is $1,500.

Young drivers can write on the topics ``How would you get your friends to slow down when driving through a work zone?'' or ``What are you thoughts and feelings about driving safely through highway work zones?''

Traffic crashes are the No. 1 cause of death for drivers 16 to 20, and Caltrans thinks some original verse might just help teens think more about their driving habits.

``Rhyme and reason and win cash,'' said Will Kempton, Caltrans director. ``Caltrans is reaching out to teens because studies show that new drivers are at the highest risk of being involved in fatal collision See CSMA/CD and collision avoidance system.
