So Do Strunz & Farah, X Composer Anthony Davis
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Rhino Records and its associated labels have scored a quartet of significant nominations in the 35th Annual Grammy Awards competition.
Two went to "Aretha Franklin: Queen of Soul -- The Atlantic Recordings," the four-volume box set on Rhino's acclaimed Atlantic & ATCO Remasters Series. In the Best Album Package category, Rhino Art Director Geoff Gans received a nomination, while the nominees for Best Album Notes were Dave Marsh, Jerry Wexler, David Ritz, Thulani Davis, Ahmet Ertegun, Tom Dowd and Arif Mardin.
"X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X" (subtitled "An Opera in Three Acts") on the Rhino-distributed Gramavision label earned a nod in the Best Contemporary Composition classical category for its composer, Anthony Davis.
And "Americas," the latest album by renowned guitar duo Strunz & Farah for the Rhino-distributed Mesa/Bluemoon label, landed a nomination for Best World Music Album.
"Aretha Franklin: Queen of Soul" was released in September. Its 86 tracks spanning Franklin's golden decade as an Atlantic artist (1967-77) and the 6-inch by 12-inch set's creative packaging have earned high praise from critics and consumers alike.
Released in August, "X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X" is the premiere recording of the widely heralded New York stage production and has also been lauded by critics as well as social historians.
Strunz & Farah's "Americas" landed in May, scored rave reviews, became the nation's No. 1 NAC (new adult contemporary) album during the summer and has spent 33 weeks on the national world music charts.
Winners of the 35th Grammy Awards will be announced Feb. 24 during ceremonies at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
