RGB Networks Announces Cable Industry's Highest Density Edge QAM Modulator.

RGB's Universal Scalable Modulator Modulator

Any device or circuit by means of which a desired signal is impressed upon a higher-frequency periodic wave known as a carrier. The process is called modulation. The modulator may vary the amplitude, frequency, or phase of the carrier.
Enables Smooth Migration to Next-Generation Digital Video Architectures for Delivering Personalized, On-Demand Services

SAN MATEO San Mateo (săn mətā`ō), city (1990 pop. 85,486), San Mateo co., W Calif., on San Francisco Bay; inc. 1894. It is a commercial and retail center with some high-technology manufacturing. San Mateo, Spanish for St. , Calif. -- Network video processing leader RGB (Red Green Blue) The computer's native color space, which is the color system for capturing and displaying images. RGB was derived from our own perception of color because human eyes are sensitive to red, green and blue (see trichromaticity).  Networks today announced the introduction of its new high density Universal Scalable Modulator (USM USM

modulation and upconversion. The USM, the most advanced QAM modulator for the cable industry, allows video service providers to make a smooth migration to next-generation digital video architectures, such as video-on-demand (VOD See video-on-demand.

When something is addressable, it can be identified and manipulated independently of its surroundings. For example, screen pixels and RAM memory are addressable. Each of the screen's picture elements can be individually turned on and off, and each of the memory's bytes can be , on-demand video services.

The one rack unit USM can support up to 128 x 6 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  (96 x 8 MHz) QAM channels and can multiplex up to 1280 digital programs, making it the cable industry's highest density edge QAM modulator. The fourth product based on RGB's Video Intelligence Architecture[TM] (VIA), the USM allows operators to offer advanced, revenue-generating services while significantly lowering capital and operational investments.

To stay competitive and meet the demands of their customers, cable operators are rapidly moving towards an on-demand delivery model, where subscribers can watch what they want, where they want to watch it. To meet the video processing demands of delivering these highly personalized services, operators require technology solutions that can easily scale and provide the flexibility to deliver video services on a per-subscriber basis.

The scalable and modular design of RGB's Universal Scalable Modulator enables service providers to minimize the cost of introducing new services and allows them to benefit from a "pay-as-you-grow" model, through which additional QAM channels can be licensed and added when needed to meet the requirements of expanding digital video service deployments without the need for complete hardware replacements. Based on RGB's flexible and programmable Video Intelligence Architecture, the USM can simplify and expedite future deployments of advanced digital video services, including MPEG-4 H.264/AVC video delivery, without the need for costly hardware upgrades. The USM also supports advanced, integrated redundancy options, pioneered by RGB, increasing reliability and service availability.

"I am delighted to announce the Universal Scalable Modulator - the fourth and newest addition to RGB's VIA product family. Based on RGB's unique Video Intelligence Architecture, the USM provides the same scalability, flexibility, reliability and cost-efficiency as the other members of RGB's growing family of advanced digital video processing products," said Jef Graham, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of RGB Networks.

"Our customers have already experienced the benefits that RGB's VIA technology brings to their deployments of advanced digital video services, including simplifying operation and management, reducing operational costs and expediting deployments. The high density USM delivers these same advantages at the network edge, allowing video service providers to easily and rapidly roll out advanced digital services for the evolving personalized and on-demand world."

RGB's USM is also the first edge QAM modulator to offer a choice of multiple Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, as well as a 10Gigabit Ethernet interface, for video input. The USM receives MPEG transport streams over IP, performs multiplexing, digital QAM modulation and RF upconversion, and outputs superior RF signals for delivery to the home. In addition to supporting on-demand video applications and architectures, the USM also supports IP video delivery services based on DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) A cable modem standard from the CableLabs research consortium (www.cablelabs.com), which provides equipment certification for interoperability.  3.0 M-CMTS specifications.

About RGB Networks
