RFR/Davis breaks ground on two First Ave. developments.


In a rare occurrence, but one consistent with its reputation as New York's most active residential developer, RFR/Davis has simultaneously broken ground on two new luxury rental apartment projects on Manhattan's Upper East.

The larger of the two developments, to be known as The Impala impala, species of antelope, Aepyceros melampus, closely related to the gazelle and found in the savannah and bush country of E and S Africa. It is the antelope most commonly depicted in illustrations and in motion pictures. , is a distinctive three-building, 216-unit complex rising on the easterly blockfront of First Avenue between 75th and 76th streets. It will be anchored by a 31-story high-rise that fronts First Avenue and interconnects through a central outdoor landscaped courtyard with its two seven-story sister buildings on 75th and 76th streets.

The other project, named Century Tower, is a 23-story, 128-unit apartment building now underway at the southeast corner of First Avenue and 90th Street.

"There is tremendous demand today for quality rental apartments on the Upper East Side, particularly from your professionals, and we believe these exciting new projects address that need," said developer Trevor Davis, who together with partners Aby Rosen Aby Rosen is a real estate tycoon living in New York. While their anticipated openings will be relatively close - Century Tower in the Winter of 1999 and The Impala in the Spring of 2000 - their outward appearances will markedly different. The $95 million Impala complex will sport an abstract facade facade (fəsäd`), exterior face or wall of a building. The term implies ordered placement of its openings and other features and thus seems inapplicable to a wall without design.  that features large square windows, pre-cast panels set into a brick facade and capped by pre-cast cornices.
